Resumption Sunday September 10, 2006Like most Unitarian Universalist churches, FUSS takes an informal approach to summer activities. There are interesting and enjoyable services held most Sundays during the summer, but they are quite different from the usual services held Sundays during the church year from September to June. Early in September each year, our regular church year is inaugurated with Resumption Sunday. We come together, after many of us have been elsewhere for some or most of the summer. We celebrate our gathering with Water Communion. Each family brings a small sample of water collected from one or more place visited during the past months. A chalice is placed front and center in the Great Hall, and first blessed with a sample of the water gathered in past years at our Water Communion rituals. Then each family is invited to add a bit of the water they have brought to the chalice. We look forward to this inspiring ceremony to re-unite the congregation each September. This year we were especially pleased to welcome on Resumption Sunday our new settled minister, Rev. Priscilla Richter. Some of the moments we enjoyed in this service:
