This year we have limped along without a functioning Religious Services Committee. The Board of Trustees has worked on establishing a mission and description of this important committee – it’s new name is the Worship Working Group. Our inaugural meeting will be Monday, June 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fireplace Room.
The mission of this group is to work closely with the minister in guiding the shared ministry of worship of FUSS, including memorial and special services and all the elements that comprise a meaningful UU worship experience for all ages.
The specific tasks include:
Planning and maintaining a year-round worship calendar, including holidays and holy days and summer services, the goal being a well-rounded worship program that encompasses the sources and themes of Unitarian Universalism.
Planning and leading services on the minister’s Sundays off.
Coordinating closely with the minister, music director, DRE and storytellers, usher coordinators, sound/lighting/video technician(s), chancel decorations, caring team, and others involved with overall worship and/or specific services.
Evaluating the tradition, flow, and content of our religious services and making recommendations for improvement.
Providing assistance for special services such as Thanksgiving, Passover Seder, Christmas Eve, All Souls, Solstice, memorial services including coordinating receptions with the Caring Team.
This is probably the most important program of any congregation – and is truly a shared ministry. If you have any interest in this area, I urge you to attend the first meeting.
See you there!
