Meditation Series

The Adult Programs Council is sponsoring a Meditation Series on the first four Tuesdays in April at 5:30 in the Emerson room. Anyone is invited; no prior experience at meditation is needed. FUSS member Jill Masterson will lead the series. She is a thirty-year meditator and a twenty-five year teacher of meditation.
The Meditation Series is designed to help you focus your attention, a more difficult task than it seems! Techniques will draw on many spiritual traditions, including the Christian, Hebrew and Buddhist traditions, without attaching any particular spiritual philosophy. Each session will present a new form of meditation. Different sessions will focus on sights, sounds, and body sensations under different circumstances. Participants are encouraged to practice the new technique during the following week.
Each week’s session will discuss the prior’s week’s experience with a technique, present a new technique and practice the new technique for 20-25 minutes. Sessions will run from 60-90 minutes and will allow time for questions about the new technique or about meditation more generally.
Jill will have session handouts and a general list of resources. Please try to attend as many sessions as you can. Each technique is one more way of learning to focus your attention; the more ways you learn, the easier it will be for you to generalize to what works for you. A benefit can be that you become calmer and more relaxed in your daily life.
Advanced registration is requested; the series will run only if there are five or more people interested. Please contact Barbara Vivier to register.
